
Members Present: Jeff Newcomer, Kathy Davidson, McKim Mitchell, Tim Butterworth, Bob Sorterup. Also present: Mary Grove, Chesterfield School
The commission reviewed the Forest Inventory and Mgmt. Plan for Town of Chesterfield. Tim will contact Mr. Patmos and Wayne Young to re-walk the Friedsam property.
Mary Grove, Science teacher from Chesterfield School presented the following plan regarding trail development in the Friedsam Town Forest
1. Completion of the parking area on the east end of Twin Brook Rd.
2. Building of bridge across the lower end of the gorge where the Sargent Trail crosses the
brook.
3. Build a new loop trail from the east end of Twin Brook.
4. Improve the markings and do trail repair on the trail built by Rick Cooper that makes a loop
from the parking lot on the north end of Rt. 63.
5. Continue to improve the markings and condition of the Sargent Trail.
6. Erect trail map in parking lot on Twin Brook (school)
7. Erect one nature interpretive sign a year along one of the trails (school)
8. Have one Saturday a year be a designated work day for students, parents, staff and members
of the Conservation Commission to work on designated projects decided jointly by the school
and Conservation Commission.
McKim will contact John Herrick re: workday on November 4 at Friedsam. The entire board voted to endorse Ms. Grove's proposed plan.
Jeff mentioned that we should walk the perimeter of Friedsam to check on condition of "no hunting" signs.
Received a letter from Donna Nallet re: resignation. The commission accepts her resignation with regrets. McKim will check the conservation surveys to see if anyone is interested in serving on the board to replace Donna. Also received a letter dated 9/17/95 from Tom Dustin, re: How motor track is affecting the Catsbane Brook. There is apparently a motorcycle race course close to the brook and wetlands, possibly damaging with motor fluid and silt into the brook. Mr. Dustin asked that we look into violation of wetlands regulations. Discussion....McKim is interested in more information. K. Davidson recommended that the commission contact the Dustins and recommend that they fill out a formal complaint form to the Wetlands Board.
Evans/Pacek: August 10 letter from Wetlands Board to Evans was reviewed. The Wetlands Board completed a site inspection in mid September.
Discussion re: land that the Town wants the Conservation Commission to accept on N. Shore Rd. Voted unanimously to accept this land. The board is not interested in land locked piece at this time.
