After a number of years of study the logging project in the Friedsam Town Forest was completed this winter in an isolated section of the northwest corner of the 209 acre forest.

The primary goal of the project was to improve animal habitat by opening densely wooded areas  and to study the impact of selective logging on forest ecology.  Secondary benefits have included the creation of a parking area on the western end of the forest and the clearing of logging roads that will enhance the current trail system.  The logged area will be monitored  to study the evolution and repair of the forest over the next several years.

Income from the project will place in the town's land conservation fund.  As voted by the town,  any income above $5,000 will be placed in the general account to reduce taxes.
