On Saturday, November 1st, over 40 people joined a partnership of conservation groups to celebrate the completion of a section of the Wantastiquet-Monadnock Greenway with an all-day hike. The “Taste of the Greenway” hike began at Pisgah’s Kilburn Pond Trailhead off Route 63 in Chesterfield at 10 AM and ended with dinner at the Riverview Restaurant in downtown Brattleboro, Vermont, 6 hours and more than 6 miles later. The event was sponsored by the Conservation Commissions of Chesterfield, Brattleboro and Hinsdale, the Monadnock Conservancy, and the Friends of Pisgah.

The area covered by the hike was within the largest unfragmented bloc in southwest new Hampshire and contains a diverse mix of flora, fauna and geological form as well as several stunning views. More than 95% of the hike was over protected land!

The Wantastiquet-Monadnock Greenway and associated hiking trail is an on-going project meant to ultimately connect Brattleboro, Vermont - and possibly points west of Brattleboro – to Mt. Monadnock and other points to the north and west of Mt. Monadnock. Progress has also been made on connecting the Wantastiquet-Monadnock Trail from Pisgah Park to Keene, New Hampshire, through the Horatio Colony Preserve in Keene and Swanzey and the California Brook Natural Area in Chesterfield.
